OUR WORK

Education

We help people in Australia and abroad to understand why the death penalty is an affront to human dignity.

Our work abroad

We support a range of educational programs in the Asia-Pacific region aimed at challenging the death penalty. We also seek to deepen relationships with anti-death penalty organisations, lawyers and advocates within the region to best support them in the work they do.

Specifically, we support a number of regional training initiatives that help upskill the next generation of capital defence lawyers. Examples include our online training program with Forage, and the training workshops we have run in the past 12 months for capital defence lawyers in Indonesia and Malaysia, which have been customised to their specific needs.

Our work in Australia

We are proud to have partnered with Monash University to create Eleos Justice, the region's leading academic hub for evidence-based research, policy and clinical casework devoted to restricting and abolishing the death penalty. The Eleos Anti-Death Penalty Clinic trains law students in capital defence casework, advocacy and policy across the Asia-Pacific region.

“It is the ultimate and the most incomparably extreme form of punishment … involving … the planned and calculated termination of life itself; the destruction of the greatest and most precious gift which is bestowed on all humankind".
