As we approach World Day Against the Death Penalty in 2024, our partner organisation Eleos Justice — an anti-death penalty initiative based at Monash University — is pleased to announce a new project: MIS/CONCEPTIONS: Eyes on the Death Penalty.

Each year on October 10, CPJP and Eleos join the global abolitionist movement in marking World Day Against the Death Penalty. This year's theme – the death penalty protects no one – is dedicated to challenging the misconception that the death penalty can make people and communities safer.

Call for creative works

We invite individuals and organisations to submit works that, in line with the abolitionist spirit of World Day, cast a light on the death penalty. Submissions will be compiled into a digital magazine available on the Eleos Justice website, as well as being exhibited on the ‘Digital Wall’ at Monash University Malaysia's library.

Submissions may include:

  • Drawings & paintings

  • Photographs

  • Poems

  • Short stories (fiction) (<750 words)

  • Essays & reflections (non-fiction) (<750 words)

  • Backronyms’ of DEATH PENALTY

See here for the submission link: https://forms.gle/FBwXHjntVW5sJDWTA, and good luck to all that enter!
